CAN THE BLIND LEAD THE BLIND?
Not around Lake Michigan!

I dreamt the other night that I went to Lake Michigan with my grandfather (who is now deceased). We were excited to see the vastness and beauty of the sprawling body of water. In the next scene grandpa (who was legally blind) started leading me to the edge of the parking deck which was above water. I said, “Grandpa, no! We’ll go over the edge into the water and drown if you go any further!” Then he quickly turned around and led me in the opposite direction but the same thing happened again. This time I was a little firmer but respectful and said, “Grandpa, this is the second time you did this. You can’t lead me around here. You can’t see!” He nodded in agreement but insisted on leading me anyway. Finally, he took me to a grassy patch that was even with the pavement and said, “Here, this is safe go ahead.” I said, “No, grandpa, I won’t go there either. I have no confidence that this is a safe place to go. I can't trust your judgment!” This scene of the dream ended. For the sake of time I will not include the rest of it here.

Coming from a background of emotional abuse myself, I, like so many others have been an easy target for a spirit of manipulation and control. I share this dream openly as a matter of exposing what I believe many have suffered or suffer from in the past and to possibly shed some light. Nobody wants to "Miss Again" God's best-especially when He is leading us into a new season! If we bring with us in a new season what haunted us in the past, more frustration will result! What God has taught me after many missteps and near fatalities over nearly 60 years of living is that I must know who He is and know who I am in Christ.

1. My Heavenly Father is NOT like an earthly abusive Father 2. His nature and character are completely trustworthy because He is light-therefore there is no falsity or darkness in His nature whatsoever 3. In order to grow spiritually I should only follow those who manifest the Father Heart of God in their ministry 4. My righteousness and right standing before God is not dependent upon anything I nor anyone else can do for me, save the blood of Jesus. Therefore, I am co-dependent upon no one but Jesus Christ to lead me into the green pastures of victorious living.

You see, one of the symptoms of emotional and spiritual abuse is the inability to recognize and confront issues objectively. This yields passive aggressive behavior and is intimidating to others. Internalizing things and taking them personally renders an individual unable to discern truth from error. Because our society has become so dysfunctional the enemy has taken advantage of this in the church and used people’s dysfunctions and insecurities bred from abuse to wound one another. The only true remedy is repentance from dead works and turning to the Father Heart of God. If you strive to resolve issues through control, manipulation, half-truths and lies, intimidation or sweeping them under a spiritual rug, you will wind up more deceived and wounded. Others that you influence will be hurt in the wake of it all.

Can the blind lead the blind? No one has reached perfection yet but look for a Father’s heart in your leadership i.e., one that is approachable, humble and honest about their own weaknesses and failures. If they strive to ‘cover’ sins and mistakes they are hiding under a blanket of futility. Father God loves His sheep too much to allow dishonesty and deception to falsely cover His flock.

Spiritual leaders who fall into the dysfunction trap are easy prey for the spirit of Jezebel to manipulate them in ministry. This renders them void of the true power of God and releases false signs, wonders and prophecy. You know a tree by its fruit. We must be able to discern the spirit behind what we do and the spirit behind leadership at any level. God is purging and purifying the prophetic in this hour! He is raising up and army not a nursery.

When you tell a controller/ manipulator that the Holy Spirit has taught you or led you in a particular way (if that in fact is the case), that is the point where their manipulation and control over you stops! No spirit can trump the Holy Spirit; not Jezebel, Haman, Herod, Diotrephes or any other religious controlling/ manipulating spirit. If you are submitted to and controlled by the Holy Spirit you have satanic immunity.

"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you." James 4: 78a

"He also told them this parable: "Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit?" Luke 6: 39
