Opponents of the Wells of Life By Mary Ann Wray A while back I watched a video of a church digging a well for fresh water in Masai, Mara. The well in Mara caved in after the drill hit living water. They had to reposition the drill and dig several more times and return a second time to Africa before hitting a living spring and the equipment not caving in as a result of it. It occurred to me that this is exactly what the enemy tries to do with us as we dig deeper into the things of God. The enemy opposes the life giving water of the Spirit and will do whatever he can to stop up the wells or cause our striving after the things of the Spirit to ‘cave in’. CONTROL FREAK! Mary Ann Wray Edgar Bergman and Charlie McCarthy were a dynamic pair which graced radio performances in its heyday. Under various sponsors, they were on the air from December 1937 through July 1956. Charlie McCarthy became Bergen’s lifelong sidekick who was presented as a child wearing an adult top hat, cape and monocle. As a “child”, Charlie could get away with double entendre that adult humans could not under broadcast standards of the day. The ‘puppet’ always seemed to be the one in control of the conversations but under a clever guise of manipulation by Mr. Berge. One was always left guessing who the real dummy of the two was after several minutes of dialogue. Nevertheless, they entertained America for years and delightfully so. In personal relationships there usually tends to be one who is “in charge”. Control is not a bad thing in and of itself. His needs and wants went completely unnoticed-at least that is how he felt. Finally, the young man had enough and decided to turn the tables around and let his girl know how he really felt.
