TEN THOUSAND INSTRUCTORS BUT NOT MANY FATHER'S
TEN THOUSAND INSTRUCTORS BUT NOT MANY FATHER'S
By Mary Ann Wray
Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel.1 Cor 4: 15
Being a spiritual father or mother means that you not only take the time to invest in the development of those you mentor, but you take the lickings that go with it. Being a parent is hard work, involves personal sacrifice and is taxing not to mention sorrowful at times (Galatians 4: 19). To represent Our Heavenly Father correctly and call yourself a spiritual father means you have His heart. God doesn't write us off when we blow it or if we let Him down once, twice or three times. He doesn't give up on us because He sees the treasure inside of us. Don't call yourself a spiritual father if you haven't paid the price with your son or daughter and don't manifest the nature of forbearance and long-suffering!
Too many call themselves 'father' but in essence they are users because they’ve given little if nothing to coach, love you through your mistakes and give you permission to experiment and discover the ‘real’ you. They love the title and being recognized as such but are they really in essence who they say they are? Calling someone a 'son or daughter' AFTER they become successful is more like a pimp than a parent. A so-called ‘father’ who is a user more than a giver is really not who they say they are! It's like being a sperm donor. You provide the seed but don't do much of anything else to develop and nurture the seed you provide.
It’s like any other ‘title’ in the Body of Christ. If you’re truly not functioning in that ‘title’ you’re a play actor. You're still young and immature spiritually and need developing yourself! If you want to be the father or mother you never had you have to BE that supernaturally by the Heart of the Father and it will take quite a bit of stretching to get there if you didn't have that in your upbringing.
At the same time, if you glean the benefits of someone's gift but you invested nothing in their development and didn't grow in the process yourself but call yourself their 'father or mother' are you being truthful to them and to yourself before God? Who are you really helping?
If you were fortunate enough to be raised by one or two godly parents and/ or blessed to find a true Spiritual Father/ Mother later on in life, show them the respect and honor they deserve. Listen with your heart and apply their counsel and correction. You will be better off for it and will grow spiritually at an accelerated rate even though it will stretch you and cause your flesh to die! In turn you will be able to 'father' others in the Spirit and keep the legacy of Christ alive for your generation!
