Know those Whom God Sends to You!

KNOW THEM WHOM GOD HAS SENT TO YOU!
Mary Ann Wray
I've come to understand something in the Kingdom of God in terms of discipling/ mentoring people, leading others in a group and even ministering to people that come my way at work or at church etc. The Lord has taught me that we are NOT called to EVERYONE. There are those whom God will send to you that receive everything  you impart to them with a teachable spirit and a hungry heart. But then there are those who will drain your time, resources, life etc. The enemy uses them to SAP the life right out of you! These are those who want to complain about their lives and whine to someone about how bad things are but really do NOT want to change.

If you are not careful, they will attach themselves to your life like spiritual leeches and it will become very difficult to remove their attachment and power over you!
Here is a definition of a leech and what it does to help paint a spiritual picture in your mind:

Leech
1.any bloodsucking or carnivorous aquatic or terrestrial worm of the class Hirudinea, certain freshwater species of which were formerly much used in medicine for bloodletting.
2. a person who clings to another for personal gain, especially without giving anything in return, and usually with the implication or effect of exhausting the other's resources; parasite.
3. to cling to and feed upon or drain, as a leech: His relatives leeched him until his entire fortune was exhausted.

While at one time, leeches were used medicinally to draw out poisons out of an ill person’s body, that practice has long stopped. Leeches also carry their own set of diseases. When they attach to their host they also transmit whatever diseases are in them while extracting whatever is in their host. That’s why they used fresh water leeches for medicinal purposes.

You need to understand that there is a spiritual bond that occurs when you ‘take someone under your wing’ so to speak. You must be wise, prudent, cautious, and look for fruit in your efforts to mentor, minister and disciple someone. If you don’t see any change  you need to begin to ask God and even ask the person some pointed questions as to their intent to change and the fact that you are not their sole source of wisdom.

Point them to the cross. If they are not willing to obey and get on it at some point in time after they’ve been ministered to for their personal wounds, then it may be time for you to move on and time to encourage them to turn to the pages of their Bible for help and practice since you’re not seeing any change. It is true that fruit takes time to grow, but if you don’t see any fruits of repentance i.e., increase in prayer life, more conversation that is God centered rather than self-centered, the person giving back to you in some measure rather than always taking and draining you, then it is a sign you may be wasting your time and the season has arrived to ‘cut the chord’. You are NOT the Messiah and you are not a doormat for the devil to walk on or use to wipe his feet. He’s under your feet so use him as your doormat!

The multitudes came to Jesus for a touch: His miracles, His healings, to be fed etc., but when it came time to pick up their cross and FOLLOW Him....the crowd thinned out. The Lord quickened the following scripture to me and showed me that Jesus did NOT pray to the Father for EVERYONE in terms of His association with them. He prayed to the Father for those whom God GAVE Him and for those who would come to truly BELIEVE in Christ and the lifestyle He demands (future tense). We must pray for discernment in this area. Otherwise the enemy will sap your life through tares he sows your way or frustrate you through people who really do not want to change or are not ready to change.....You will be casting your pearls before swine and they will be trampled underfoot!

Here is Our Lord's Prayer to the Father:
“I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled." John 17: 6-12
