End Time Narcissim

End Time Narcissism....
Mary Ann Wray

"But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. 6 For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, 7 always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith. 9 But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men." 2 Timothy 3: 1-9 ESV
The Lord has been speaking to me a lot about "loving self" i.e., narcissism and how it's so easy to fall into its traps with yourself and even others without meaning to. It's a 'natural' propensity of the flesh. Being continually filled with the Spirit wards off narcissism.
Being a 'lover of self' means that you care more about saving yourself or 'looking good' at the expense of another's well being. Yes we are to love our neighbor as ourselves, but Jesus laid down His life (will) for another's welfare. That's the example we must follow as His disciples.
My Dad (Frank Russo) used to call this sort of thing being "self-centered". He warned me about becoming self-centered and insisted that I give certain things away, be courteous and mindful of others. Growing up I resented it at times but it taught me how to consider others above myself in principle. I didn't always practice it but it became a part of my moral foundation. I thank you Dad for teaching me this important principle. It works for Christians and non-Christians alike.
What Paul was telling Timothy in the verse above was that in the end times many men/ women will become narcissists and for this reason a long laundry list of sinful behaviors follow being a 'lover of self' narcissist. I counted 19 things (sins) that are the result of narcissism:

lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.

Very ugly indeed.  The warning here is not to oppose the truth (Jesus)  but embrace and walk in agape love-even when it is uncomfortable to the flesh. The decisions we make to avoid pride, arrogance, abusiveness, the love of money must be wise and self less-even when we are misunderstood.
The 21 stages link I have included below has many applications: in families, ministries, relationships etc. Very interesting indeed!
Hope you get something out of this as I did!
